Our Mission - To share the gospel, reach communities, disciple every believer
   Meditation for the Week
As a cell church, all cell groups in PLMC meet weekly or fortnightly to Welcome one another, Worship God, study the Word, and pray for the Work of the kingdom.

Sunday Sermon (29 August 2010)
God Is Good, All The Time?
Ruth 1

1. What is the meaning of the name "Naomi", "Elimelech" and "Ruth"? Many parents would hope the best for their children by giving them good names. Share with your cell the meaning of your name, if applicable.

2. Elimelech & Naomi named their two sons Mahlon (sickly) and Kilion (deteriorating) to reflect the bad and bitter times the family was going through. There are other parents in the Bible who gave not-so-good names to their children because of bitter experiences (1 Samuel 4:21, 1 Chronicles 4:9). List some of the "names" given in the heat-of-the-moment by today? parents to their children. Will these "names" have any impact upon the children?

3. Naomi chose to walk the road of bitterness alone. Read Ruth 1:6-18 and identify the verses when she (a) went against earlier plan to journey together; (b) refused the company of her daughters-in-law despite their show of sincerity; (c) insistently discouraged helping hands from coming. Naomi probably felt bad to be a burden to her daughters-in-law but do you think it is God's plan for Naomi or for us to suffer alone?

4. What obstructed Naomi from seeing the helping hands sent by God? What obstructed her from seeing a possibility of re- starting a family? What do you think was Naomi's view of God; His will and plan for her life? (verses 13, 20-21). What are the times when we, like Naomi, are prone to negative feelings or pessimistic thinking? What can we do during such times to see God's helping hands?

5. Inspite and despite of Naomi? attitude towards God, God was actively at work in the background for the good of Naomi who had been called according to His good purpose. Identify the clues in Ruth 1 (verses 6, 22) that speak about God's good plan for her life (c.f. Ruth 4:16, Matt 1:5). Does God's goodness or purpose towards us means a life without suffering? What can we learn from the example of Christ?

6. Share and pray for each other's need. Use Romans 8:28 in your prayer. Pray for more joy for those who have faith that God is good at all times. Pray especially for God's healing to those hurt by name-calling, and pray for restored hope in God for those who are discouraged.
